The Space Science at Applied Optimization, Inc. (AO) focuses on data collection and exploitation algorithms for Space Domain Awareness (SDA). We work with government and corporate clients and partners to develop viable solutions to complex problems in the Earth’s space domain.

What We Do

We support the tracking and monitoring of deep-space satellites and the analysis of remote sensing data for change detection. We develop algorithms to control the optical equipment, and collect, calibrate, reduce, and analyze electro-optical data. We develop algorithms to analyze radar cross-section data. We operate telescope sites in Dayton, OH and eastern Australia to collect multi-spectral photometry data. We operate a Rayleigh Beacon Laser site in Dayton, OH to characterize atmospheric turbulence. For almost 20 years, our research has been published at the Advanced Maui Optical and Space Surveillance Technologies (AMOS) Conference, a premier technical conference focused on space surveillance.

Some of our past projects have been in areas of:

  • Space object characterization
  • Association of uncorrelated tracks
  • Analysis of multi-spectral and spectroscopy data
  • Anomaly detection
  • Electro-optical calibration
  • Radar cross-section analysis
  • Standardized file format for electro-optical data
  • Operation, maintenance, and support of telescope sites
