Applied Optimization Job Description

Job Title: Technical Editing Intern                Reports to: Technical Editor

FLSA Status: Part-Time (Non-Exempt)        Department: Technical Deliverables

 

Position Objective:

  • Assist in collaborating with company technical personnel to produce high-quality, timely, accurate and complete technical proposals, reports, manuals, policies, and recruiting and marketing materials and documents

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in producing technical proposal, reports, manuals, policies, and recruiting and marketing materials and documents
  • Review technical documents from a scientific viewpoint
  • Help guide the technical writing process at Applied Optimization from document planning to finalization and delivery
  • Organize and communicate document requirements and internal and external deadlines for document completion to writing team; keep team updated on status toward meeting requirements and deadlines
  • Provide technical writing support in areas such as, but not limited to, purpose and audience; sentence, paragraph and report structure; grammar and usage; and document formatting
  • Help create technical writing guidelines, procedures, report-specific checklists, and additional resources for use by science/engineering personnel
  • Actively contribute to help improve the writing process
  • Assist the technical editor as needed
  • Ensure accuracy and follow documentation procedures for all work; maintain notebook of daily activities and provide weekly reports of work
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a program related to the field of English, science, or engineering with a superior academic record
  • Attention to detail and effective time and schedule management skills
  • Effective organizing, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt within a small team to support evolving customer requirements
  • Ability to execute instructions and communication in written, oral, and diagram form
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce complex reports and correspondence and speak before a group of employees
  • Demonstrated strong writing, fact-gathering, and analytical skills
  • Basic computer and software skills including but not necessarily limited to Microsoft Office products (e.g., Outlook, Word, and Power Point)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College sophomore or junior with a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.5 or higher
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Word

 

Citizenship/Security Clearance Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder

 

About Our Internships:

Hours: The internship is a part-time, year-round position that requires a minimum of sixteen hours per week of work. The hours are flexible, and they can change from one quarter to another based on class schedule. The weekly hours can be adjusted to balance for the examinations, tests, and project submissions.
